Description

This was a submission I did for a contest about humanity.

The title, 'Skin Deep' of course refers to the common phrase 'beauty is only skin deep' meaning, a beautiful face can sometimes hide an ugly inside. It is a common truth in our world and a very 'human' condition, appropriate for the contest.

I'm certainly not saying that my model here, Olya, has an ugly inside, in fact she is a very sweet and beautiful person but that beauty was an ideal opposite to the inner ugliness I wanted to show in this image. I was also sure to make her surroundings and accessories as 'sweet' as possible so that the difference between the outside and inside was clear.

What I find interesting about this image is that it can be very hard to look at. Our brains are so instilled with the image of what a face looks like that to see it split apart like this is very confusing to the eye.

Fantastic work, texture work on her face is amazing. The inner evil could use a little more definition on the nose. It seems a little bit flat (maybe from being stuck inside another head for too long :) )

Amazing! First of all, the idea is very good, and you interpret it very interestingly (in positive means).
Secondly, this is technically skillfully done. I seriously thought it was a photo, even when I saw it in full size, and that the face in the middle was a photo manipulation. You have painted it incredibly realistic! Well done! The edges of the outer face are particularily good, with the dry look and the little threads being torn between the two parts. It looks like real fabric.

Edit: and I forgot to mention: it is a good thing that the inner face has the same expression as the outer face. This way, we still see that it is the same person.

Keep this up! (thumbup)

Awesomely creepy. I thought that this was a 3D render at first!
The inner face needs more shadow under the tip of the nose and around the nostrils to define the nose better.

Hmm.. when I first saw it I thought it had something to do with different skin colors and racial backgrounds. I thought the message was something along the lines of "we're all people, even if we have different colored skin." I like your actual concept a lot too though :)
